Meet Sela
Sela Foster is a rising jazz vocalist from Cincinnati, now based in New York City. Known for her warm and soulful tone and melodic phrasing, Sela brings an emotional depth to the stage that is beyond her years.
Raised in a musical household with a deep appreciation for songwriting, Sela brings a rich sense of storytelling and emotional nuance to every performance. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Studies with a concentration in vocal performance at Purchase College, where she is learning from respected musicians such as Kate Baker, Gary Smulyan, Ralph Lalama, and Pete Malinverni.
At just twenty years old, she has already begun to make her mark in the jazz world. A recipient of the prestigious national YoungArts award, she joins the legacy of YoungArts winners in the New York City jazz scene. Her performance résumé includes some of New York’s most iconic venues, including Birdland Jazz Club and the historic Algonquin Hotel.
A highlight for Sela was joining Monika Herzig’s Both Sides of Joni project starring Alexis Cole as a guest vocalist during performances at the London Jazz Festival and the Vienna Jazz on the Floor Festival, reimagining the music of Joni Mitchell for jazz audiences.
Sela is currently performing in the New York metro area. She is excited to share the next chapter of her artistic journey with you.
